We are inviting high-profile musicians from all walks of life and all music styles to join the movement by supporting us and advocating our work
We are delighted to announce our first Musical Ambassador as Harry Christophers, Director of The Sixteen Choir & Orchestra (The Voices of Classic FM and Associate Artists at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester)
"Music can add a semblance of sanity to a world that is full of conflict. I firmly believe that it teaches us to love not hate, to be humble rather than arrogant, and to build not destroy
I believe in the importance and the need of the work of Musicians without Borders and am incredibly proud to become their first UK musical ambassador
I urge you to support this wonderful charity"
Harry Christophers is an Honorary Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford. In October 2008, he was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Music from the University of Leicester.
And.... he got an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama at the same time as Quincy Jones, legendary producer of Michael Jackson's Thriller, the best selling album of all time!!
Harry Christophers is known internationally as founder and conductor of The Sixteen as well as a regular guest conductor for many of the major symphony orchestras and opera companies worldwide. He has directed The Sixteen Choir and Orchestra throughout Europe, America and the Far East gaining a distinguished reputation for his work in Renaissance, Baroque and 20th-century music.
He has made a significant contribution to the recording catalogue (already comprising some ninety titles) for which he has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Classical Brit Award 2005 for his disc entitled Renaissance. His CD IKON was nominated for a 2007 Grammy. In 2000 he instituted the Choral Pilgrimage, a national tour of English cathedrals from York to Canterbury in music from the pre-Reformation, as The Sixteen’s contribution to the millennium celebrations. It raised awareness of this historic repertoire so successfully that the Choral Pilgrimage in the UK is now central to the annual artistic programme.
