Musicians without Borders UK work with the people from Rainbow Haven drop-in centre and share songs from cultures within the group including Sudan, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Sri Lanka, DR Congo and the UK. The choir provides a place to learn new skills, to encourage creative expression, to learn English and to improve general health and well being.
The Rainbow Haven drop-in centre was set-up as a response to concerns of NHS Psychotherapy Service about the mental health of refugees and those seeking asylum. An issue was raised that despite the high levels of stress and anxiety felt by these vulnerable groups, very few approached the NHS for help regarding their mental health.
Rainbow Haven works in Salford and East Manchester offering immigration and housing advice; help for unaccompanied minors; support and advice on asylum claims, hot food and drinks, free computer facilities, Musicians without Borders singing sessions, art and English classes and a crèche completely free.
Rainbow Haven accept donations of food and clothes which are given to destitute asylum seekers. If you have items to donate please get in touch with Amanda Jones-Said at Rainbow Haven on
